Don Cooper is a founding principal of Cooper Johnson Smith Architects and Town Planning. Early involvement in Seaside led to commissions for 30 houses there then work in the nearby communities of Rosemary Beach and Watercolor. The work expanded to include schools, civic buildings, mixed use buildings, multifamily, resorts and town planning always exploring the themes of tropical architecture and urbanism. Mr. Cooper recently completed a fire station for Disney and a Catholic Church for Celebration, Florida. He is currently working on Wakaari, a Resort Town on Eleuthera, Bahamas, a mixed use Resort in Clearwater, Florida and several single family residences including his largest to date, a 40,000 S.F. residence on Lake Thonotosassa.

Mr. Cooper graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and following graduation worked with Phillip Johnson and John Burgee in New York City. He founded Cooper Partnership with his architect wife in Ventnor, N.J. The firm moved to Tampa in 1986 where it became Cooper Johnson Smith Architects.
