Pursley Dixon Architecture

201 S. College Street Studio 2700
Charlotte, NC 28244

Ken Pursley’s architectural roots began early. After winning a high school drafting competition, Ken worked for his first firm at age 16. While in school at Auburn University he spent summers documenting historic structures for the Historical American Building Survey and working for various architectural firms throughout the south.  These early formative experiences revealed a desire to fuse architectural history with bespoke residential design. The germination of this early seed is reflected in his firm’s work today.

Upon graduating from Auburn in 1993, Ken was able to cultivate his passion for residential design under the tutelage of his mentor and friend, Bobby McAlpine. While serving as a project architect with the firm of McAlpine Tankersley, Ken was fortunate to work on a variety of primary homes and resort properties in a myriad of diverse locations. It was this exposure that eventually led him to venture out and sink his own roots in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ken, along with fellow Auburn alumnus Craig Dixon, form the foundation of Pursley Dixon Architecture.  Established in 2005, the practice specializes exclusively in boutique residential work. Founded on the simple thought that beauty matters, the nationally based firm strives to create environments as gracious and unique as the people who will occupy them. Ever mindful of traditional building elements, the design studio collectively views both modernism and classicism as a part of the broader language of architecture. By remaining stylistically eclectic, the nature of each design can be sculpted for its unique environs.

The eleven member firm has or is currently doing work in New York, Illinois, Colorado, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and throughout the Carolinas. Their award winning work has been featured in numerous publications including House Beautiful, Garden & Gun, Southern Living, Southern Accents, Renovation Style, Elegant Homes, Décor Magazine, and Beautiful Homes.
