Alys Beach

developed by EBSCO

Alys Beach, FL

Alys Beach is DPZ’s last project on the Design Coast of Florida, which is that area of the Florida Panhandle previously known as the Redneck Riviera until its 35-year radical remake began in 1980 with the design of Seaside. Guild members designed the first buildings here at a memorable charrette held at the Raleigh in South Beach in the summer of 2003, including Doug Farr, Michael Imber, Gary Justiss, Doug Luke, Frank Martinez, Steve Mouzon, Louis Nequette, Robert Orr, Julia Sanford, and Eric Watson, and Marieanne Khoury-Vogt and Erik Vogt have been Town Architects since the beginning. DPZ’s town planning team included Directors Marina Khoury, Tom Low, and Mike Watkins, and EBSCO commissioned Steve Mouzon to photograph every good building in Bermuda and in Antigua Guatemala in preparation for the charrette. In the years since, a number of other Guild members have worked at Alys Beach as well.
